From Meretta

Meretta sometimes shares her family letters from their mission in Germany and this is from one of hers.

Dear family and friends,

I found a great quote given in a talk by Elder Jeffrey Holland at the Harvard Law School in 2012 that describes so well the state of our society from a moral stand point. It is an adaption of a quote by Henry Martyn Field longtime editor of The Evangelist given sometime before his death in 1907.

“The loss of respect for religion is the dry rot of social institutions. The idea of God as the Creator and Father of all mankind is to the moral world what gravitation is in the natural: it holds everything else together and causes it to revolve around a common center. Take this away and any ultimate significance to life falls apart.

There is then no such thing as collective humanity, but only separate molecules of men and women drifting in the universe with no more cohesion and no more meaning than so many grains of sand have meaning, for the sea.”

Meretta: I love this quote, I find it really difficult to understand how so many people can live on this planet and give no thought to where they came from and why they are here!  The miracle of conception and birth are not just accidents but a part of an eternal plan and I am so grateful for that knowledge!  I am looking forward to the experience of passing through to the other side and having the opportunity to begin to really understand the wonders of the Universe and the magnitude of Gods love and plan for us, his children.  There are so many layers of knowledge and understanding awaiting us!!  God lives, he loves us and is anxious for us to return to Him and to become like him!  Galatians 3:6-7  “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.  Wherefore thou art no more a servant but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
