When I was younger and visited a home where family trophies were on display, it struck me as crass. But as our family grew, I realized that a trophy was good not only for the child who earned it, but for everyone. When someone won the Science Fair, everyone felt a sense of family pride--so I changed my tune. Later, I think the little display may have even motivated some to set goals and achieve. (That wasn't my purpose, but I think it happened.)
