| Five years later. |
My friend Melody had six boys and she told me how they just had to wrestle, bouncing off the walls.
When our boys would wrestle, Salem would end up in angry tears. "Don't worry," I said. "Just wait a few years." In Green Valley he and Jared wrestled a lot. One day after they'd been at it, Jared came to me flushed and breathless from the workout and, looking surprised and slightly amused, said,. "Mom, he can take me!" Jared had managed to talk his way out of some hold or other but they were now on a new level.
About that same time, one evening Jared was playing the guitar and Salem was playing his stand-up bass and they sang this song. Tracy Chapman, Give Me One Reason to Stay Here. They weren't singing for me or for an audience. They kind of wandered from one room to another with it until they'd had enough.
